We are literally scared of women’s emotions and their reactions from these emotions. Everyone knows how difficult it is for guys to deal with our emotions. You know we don’t like to talk about them. Now, we have to deal with the emotions of girlfriends or wives.
This might be a newsflash or not, but it is harder for men to deal with their emotions than it is for women.
According to Dr. John Gottman at the University of Washington, women can both enter and recover from extreme emotional states a lot quicker and easier than guys can.
If you think about it, it makes sense and I am a witness. I’m sure you have seen a woman burst into tears at the drop of a hat only to be totally fine a few minutes later.
But for a guy to handle emotions, it’s totally different. Dr. Gottman says it’s because of evolution that guys have evolved into being single taskers. We tend to focus on the task at hand and really nothing else. For that reason, we’re slower to get into an emotional state and a lot slower to recover from it once we get there.
The example that Michael likes to use is that he compares it to swimming.
Let’s say when a women gets emotional it’s a lot like jumping off a boat dock into a lake. You’re going to get wet but the boat dock is close and just a few swimming strokes you’re pulling yourself up the ladder to safety.
Now picture this, a guy getting emotional is like getting dropped in the middle of the ocean. He’s just bobbing around in the water knowing he is being circled by sharks with no boats around or land insight.
So what in blue blazes does this have to do with men lying?
Only, everything because from a very early age, guys have learned that if we tell you the truth you could FREAK OUT on us! You know, overwhelm us with scary emotions and drop us off in the ocean where it’ll take hours or days to recover from emotional distress.
